SATs Booster Sessions

Is Your Child Starting Year 6 in September? Here’s How You Can Help Them Feel Ready for Their SATs

Do you sometimes look at your child’s homework and wonder “Is this how we used to do it?” or feel unsure about how best to help with methods that seem completely different from the ones you learned at school? You’re not alone—many parents feel this way, especially as children approach their Year 6 SATs.

SATs can feel like a big deal for children (and parents!), but with the right support, they don’t have to be stressful. In fact, this final year of primary school is a great time to help your child build confidence, strengthen their understanding, and feel proud of what they can achieve.

So, how can you support your child effectively?

Build strong routines – Little and often is best. Short, focused revision sessions a few times a week are far more effective (and less overwhelming) than last-minute cramming.

Use everyday learning opportunities – Cooking, shopping, and travel time are perfect for sneaking in quick maths or vocabulary games. Real-life context makes learning more memorable.

Focus on tricky areas early – Help your child tackle topics they find difficult bit by bit so they feel more in control and less anxious when those questions come up later.

Encourage a growth mindset – Remind them it’s OK to make mistakes, and every challenge is a chance to learn. Positivity and praise go a long way. And remember, it's not about the outcome - this is the perfect time to develop the resilience to try again and the confidence that they're doing their best!

Get extra support when needed – That’s where I can help.

As a local tutor based in Chudleigh with over 13 years of teaching experience, I offer small SATs booster groups that focus on key English and Maths skills in a fun, friendly, and supportive way. My group sessions are designed to boost confidence, fill in learning gaps, and give children the tools they need to feel ready—not rushed—for SATs success.

If you’d like support that’s tailored, encouraging, and grounded in experience, I’d be delighted to work with your child in the lead-up to next summer’s SATs.
