I’m excited to continue offering small-group courses with new groups starting this September for children entering Year 3, Year 4 or Year 5. These friendly, focused groups (maximum 4 children per group) are designed to build the key skills needed for the 11+, while nurturing your child’s confidence, creativity and love of learning.

I regularly use manipulatives like Numicon, place value counters, bead strings, dice, and even a simple pack of playing cards to help children develop a really strong understanding of key concepts and fluency 'at their fingers tips' in maths skills. These resources are brilliant for exploring number sense, place value and calculation strategies in a visual and tactile way.

When parents look for extra support for their child, one-to-one tuition often seems like the obvious choice. But did you know that small group learning can be just as effective—and in many cases, even more beneficial?

Formative assessment isn’t about formal tests or high-stakes exams. It’s about observing, listening, questioning, and responding to students as they learn. It gives tutors real-time insights into how a child is thinking, what their strengths are and which areas may need a little more support or clarification.

SATs can feel like a big deal for children (and parents!), but with the right support, they don’t have to be stressful. In fact, this final year of primary school is a great time to help your child build confidence, strengthen their understanding, and feel proud of what they can achieve.

Preparing for the 11 Plus or Year 6 SATs can feel like a big step for children—and for parents too! Concrete materials including place value counters, cubes, number lines, and base ten blocks (also called dienes) can make abstract ideas visible and tangible, allowing children to explore and understand maths through hands-on experiences.
