Why Small Group Learning Works – And Why I Offer It
Worried your child might get lost in a group and not get the help they need?
This is a really common concern for parents looking for extra learning support, and it’s completely understandable.
When parents look for extra support for their child, one-to-one tuition often seems like the obvious choice. But did you know that small group learning can be just as effective—and in many cases, even more beneficial?
That’s why I offer small group sessions (with no more than 4 children per group) for primary-aged students. These sessions are warm, focused, and carefully planned to support individual needs, while offering the added benefits of collaboration and peer learning.
Here’s why group learning works so well:
🌟 Peer Support and Encouragement
Children often feel more confident and motivated when they see others tackling similar challenges. They encourage each other, celebrate wins together and realise they’re not alone in finding some things tricky.
🗣️ Discussion and Collaboration
Talking about their thinking, hearing different approaches and learning to explain ideas in their own words deepens understanding. It also builds essential communication and problem-solving skills, as well as providing excellent opportunities to play games to recall or embed their learning.
🎯 Still Tailored to Individual Needs
Even in a group, learning is never one-size-fits-all. I keep group sizes small (maximum of four) so I can respond to each child’s strengths and gaps, adapting tasks and questions to make sure everyone is stretched and supported.
💰 More Affordable Option for Families
Group tuition offers high-quality teaching at a more accessible price point, without compromising on personal attention.
👩🏫 Learning From Each Other
Children learn in different ways and at different paces. In a group setting, they benefit from hearing new strategies, tackling challenges together, and gaining confidence from helping others too.
Ultimately, my group sessions are designed to be friendly, inclusive, and highly effective. They’re not just about getting the answers right—they’re about building understanding, resilience, and a real love of learning.
